ImmunoCOVID19 info for children aged less than 16 years
Description
Participant Information for children aged less than 16 years Study Title: Coronavirus infection in primary or secondary immunosuppressed children. Chief Investigator: H. de Graaf Principal investigators: H. de Graaf and S. N. Faust Sponsor ID: RHM CHI1061 IRAS ID: 281544 Information sheet children Version: 1.7 Date: 22/03/2020 Dear young person, It is important to remember that if you are unwell and need medical care, you should follow the usual NHS clinical pathways. Thank you for reading this information. We would like to tell you about a study we are doing. We would like to ask you to help. At the moment a new virus is going round. It is called the coronavirus or COVID-19 and you might have heard about it at school. It makes people poorly like the flu. Children with coronavirus seem to get better quicker than adults. But this study is to find out more about that. Your body fights infections to protect you from getting poorly. In some children their body is not able to fight infections that well. This can be because their body is different, or because of medication they are taking. We want to know what the coronavirus does in these children. We can then keep a close eye on them. We would like your parent to fill in a questionnaire about how you are feeling every week. We will then look at this information and see how we can help you best. What would happen if you choose to be in the study? If you choose to take part in the study you can fill in a form, called the assent form, when you are seeing your doctor. Your parent will sign another form called the informed consent form. We will then send them the questions every week. They fill it in online. We will look at the information they give and let your doctor know what we found. Why would it be good to take part in the study? Being in the study may not help you yourself. But you would be helping us to understand what the coronavirus does in children like you. And in this way we can care for you better. Can I change my mind? Yes. If you agree to be in the study but then change your mind that’s fine, you can leave at any time.
