The orange car park at Southampton General Hospital will be temporarily closed from 6pm Friday, 23 August to 8pm on Sunday, 25 August, to enable the delivery and installation of a crane for the general intensive care unit (GICU) extension building works. This work was originally planned for the previous weekend.
During this time, visitors will be signposted to the blue car park, which can be accessed from Tremona Road, or the yellow car park at Princess Anne Hospital. Spaces for Blue Badge holders can be found in the blue car park.
The existing taxi collection/drop off point for pre-booked taxis will be maintained outside the front of the hospital and accessed via Coxford Road. We will also be positioning a temporary taxi rank near the entrance of the site.
The footpath down from Tremona Road, alongside the orange car park, will also be maintained however the area between the front of the hospital and the car park will be restricted for safety reasons.
There will be marshals present at the site entrance and also around the orange car park throughout the closure, to help safely direct visitors. Diversions will also be clearly signposted.
Access to our emergency unit and its drop off area will be unaffected.
A map of our site, demonstrating the closure and restricted access, can be found here.
