Our tuberculosis (TB) and BCG vaccination service is run from the Royal South Hants Hospital, in the Fanshawe Wing.

Our outpatient service (for patients who don't need to stay in hospital) is also at the Royal South Hants, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. This service is led by nurses, with doctors visiting on Wednesday mornings.

If you have TB and need to stay in hospital, our specialist medical, nursing and pharmacy team will look after you in the isolation facilities at Southampton General Hospital.

You might be referred to us from local primary care services, hospital or occupational health services.

National tuberculosis screening

The national TB screening programme aims to identify and diagnose higher risk people who have latent disease (not causing any symptoms).

In the first two years of the initiative, 1415 people have been screened with 212 TB-positive results. Once diagnosed, the team can provide the necessary treatment to prevent the active disease and will help to reduce the rate of TB in Southampton.
