Stroke research
Southampton is a National Institute of Health (NIHR) Hyperacute Stroke Research Centre. This means that we aim to recruit many patients in the very early stages of having had a stroke in order to minimise brain damage. This may be through medications, surgery to remove blood clots, or other treatments.
You may be approached by a member of your clinical care team or the stroke research team during or after your hospital admission, asking if you want to take part in our research. They will provide you with information about what’s involved; there is no obligation to take part, and your care will not be affected if you decline.
In addition, we have a broad portfolio of randomised clinical trials and other high quality clinical studies. These cover:
- prevention
- acute care
- primary care
- rehabilitation
- service development
- translational research.
