Gastrointestinal surgery

Hepatobillary and pancreatic surgery

The service is established as the regional centre of excellence for this work performing in excess of 200 major resections each year. We are the UK’s leading centre for laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery and are the nationally recognised training centre for this work.

The patients we treat have primary and secondary liver tumours, bile duct tumours and pancreatic tumours. We also manage patients with benign conditions affecting these organs. By working closely with the hepatology, oncology, pancreatology and interventional radiology services, we are able to provide a complete multidisciplinary range of therapeutic options for our patients.

Upper gastrointestinal surgery

Our world-leading upper GI (oesophagogastric) unit works in partnership with the University of Southampton. We provide care for patients from across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Channel Islands and the Dorset region. We also look after patients from wider afield who need the specialist interventions from a multi-disciplinary team that we can provide.

Find out more on our upper GI surgery pages.

Lower gastrointestinal surgery

The colorectal service comprises of 11 consultants, four specialist registrars and three colorectal specialist nurses together with a large supporting multidisciplinary team.
