Hysteroscopy and colposcopy unit
Our department is an ambulatory gynaecology outpatient department. We see patients referred for colposcopy, hysteroscopy and minor gynaecology procedures and cystoscopy.
Find us
We are based on H level, in Princess Anne Hospital.
Come into the hospital through the main entrance on E level, then go through the double doors immediately to your left. Keep going to the bottom of the corridor, through another set of double doors into the lift lobby. Take the lift up to H level. When you come out of the lift, the entrance to the unit is on your right.
Colposcopy
A colposcopy is a simple examination of the cervix (neck of the womb). It is usually recommended after an abnormal cervical screening (sometimes called smear test) result. We also see people who are referred with abnormal symptoms relating to the cervix. We have nurse colposcopists and doctors who are qualified in colposcopy.
We also run a nurse led cervical screening clinic for people who have difficulty having this done at their GP.
You can find a leaflet about colposcopy on the GOV.UK website:
