Specialist nurses (cystic fibrosis)
The CF specialist nursing service provides inpatient, outpatient, and community support. This could include at your home, place of work or college.Our role is to ensure that you receive the highest level of nursing care. The includes providing specific advice, support and education tailored to your needs. We can also give support to your family or carers.
Our roles include:
- Inpatient support and education
- Training for inpatient nursing teams
- Co-ordination of admissions, discharges, and line insertions
- Nursing assessment in routine and annual review clinics
- Provision of specialist clinics including sweat tests and diabetes
- Management of the home IV service alongside the multi-disciplinary team
- Working with the paediatric team to support transition to the adult service
- Community visits which can include port flushes and supporting patients having IV antibiotics at home.
Dan EdwardsClinical nurse specialist team manager
Dan joined the CF team in 2017, bringing experience from both cardiac intensive care and respiratory nursing. He has helped to develop the homecare service and manages the nursing team, while also supporting the wider management of the CF service
Grainne WoodwardClinical nurse specialist team manager
Grainne joined the CF team in 2018, having previously worked as a ward sister on the CF ward. She has a special interest in cystic fibrosis related diabetes and runs specialist CF diabetes clinics. She also manages the nursing team and contributes to the wider management of the CF service.
Sarah BradshawSarah joined the CF nursing team in 2021. She has a wealth of experience working in the community having come from the UHS at Home IV service. Sarah has had an active role developing the community service.
Zofia SolarzZofia has extensive experience in cystic fibrosis care, having previously worked on the CF ward. She now applies this expertise in her role as a clinical nurse specialist within the CF team, where she is actively involved in facilitating a smooth and effective transition from paediatric to adult care.
- Nicole Salles Dos Reis
Nicole joined the CF team from D10 ward, bringing valuable experience in cystic fibrosis care and a patient-centred approach to supporting individuals and families.
Health care assistant
- Mani Kommana
Mani supports the CF clinic and plays an important role in ensuring patients have a positive experience during their appointments. Her responsibilities include performing blood tests and assisting with routine clinical procedures.
