Service delivery (radiotherapy physics)

Data flow and management

Our scientific computing team support management of the radiotherapy network and data storage to ensure seamless transfer between systems and data retention in line with data governance standards. The team delivers a digital helpdesk to support trouble shooting radiotherapy data flow.

Efficient delivery of radiotherapy is supported by the ongoing development of automated workflow solutions by the team. Find out more on our service development and innovation page.

Mould room

We have a dedicated mould room team that ensures reproducibility of patient positioning through customising fixation equipment to help patients maintain their position throughout treatment. As the first point of contact for patients on their treatment journey the mould room staff also help to put patients at their ease and ensure they have a good understanding of what is to follow.

Mould room is supported by our mechanical workshop supporting production of bespoke immobilisation devices.

Equipment maintenance

Our dedicated electronics group undertake regular planned maintenance on equipment to ensure it is continuously performing to deliver high quality therapy and are on hand to minimise clinical down time by timely corrective maintenance when the complex equipment has faults. They support development of tools to monitor equipment performance.

Equipment safety

Our QA team ensure that new equipment is commissioned safely into clinical use, with medical physics experts (MPEs) overseeing the commissioning process to ensure high quality data is collected to model the treatment units in the treatment planning systems and all imaging and monitoring systems perform optimally. The team ensure that quality control is completed regularly throughout the lifetime of the treatment equipment to maintain accurate and high-quality treatment delivery and optimised imaging protocols.

Treatment planning (external beam and brachytherapy)

Our dedicated team of dosimetrists and clinical scientists excels in creating intricate, customized treatment plans for each patient using advanced software technology, while adhering to established protocols and the latest evidence-based practices.

These plans, based on 3D anatomy derived from multimodality imaging, cater to both external beam and brachytherapy patients. To ensure the highest standards of accuracy and safety, all treatment plans undergo rigorous independent verification, including independent calculations with in-house developed software solutions and meticulous measurement methods.
