Information regarding resident doctor strike action, 25 to 30 July

The British Medical Association has announced that resident doctors will take strike action from 7am on Friday 25 July 2025 and ending at 7am on Wednesday 30 July 2025.

We are committed to continuing to treat as many patients as possible, both on emergency and elective pathways. However, there maybe some unavoidable disruption to some of our services and we will be in contact with you if your appointment needs to be changed. Otherwise, please attend your appointment as planned.

How you can help

If you need medical help, please consider which service is most appropriate for you to use. We expect our emergency department to be under increased pressure.

Our emergency department is just one of the urgent care services in Southampton. If you need medical attention but it is not life threatening, there are a number of other local NHS services to choose from. Selecting the right one will help you get the treatment you need faster.

This could mean attending an urgent treatment centre, using NHS 111, contacting your GP practice or speaking to a pharmacist. Find out more on our urgent care page.

You can also find out more about choosing the right service for you on the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight website.

Supporting our staff

We would like to thank our patients and local community for your understanding and support, and assure you that we are doing everything we can to minimise the impact of this industrial action.

Please continue to treat all NHS staff with kindness and respect as they work hard to care for everyone in challenging circumstances.
