Temporary changes to hospital visiting during hot weather
Due to the current period of extreme heat, we have introduced temporary measures to help keep our patients safe and comfortable.
In some clinical areas, visiting on our wards is limited to a maximum of two people per patient at the bedside at any one time. This helps reduce heat and maintain a safe environment. We understand how important visiting is for patients and their loved ones. In some exceptions, more than two visitors may be possible where it is important for a patient’s wellbeing - for example for children, those who are more vulnerable, confused, deteriorating, or receiving end-of-life care.
If you believe your visit falls within one of these exceptions, please contact the ward in advance to discuss arrangements.
We recognise that visitors can also play an important role in supporting patients during hot weather, including helping to encourage regular drinks.
Different arrangements apply in our emergency department (ED). These areas are currently extremely busy, and we ask that ED is used only for life- or limb-threatening conditions. Where patients do need to attend, please keep accompanying visitors to a minimum, with no more than one person accompanying each patient unless additional support is essential.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we take these steps to protect patients during the heatwave.
