Clinical research: Please ask your doctor

Doctor and patient discussing clinical trials

A national campaign, Ok to Ask, aims to encourage us all to ask our GP, consultant or nurse about clinical research and any trials that may be open to us – something Southampton keenly supports as part of its efforts to advance medicine and healthcare.

Backed by the National Institute for Health Research, it aims to address the fact that despite nine out of ten people being supportive of clinical research, only 20% would feel confident discussing it with their doctor.

Meet people already  involved in Southampton’s research

Our real stories videos give you the chance to hear from people involved in our clinical research and trials, from participants and patients through research nurses and clinicians to the scientists advancing medicine in the laboratory.

Why ask

Southampton’s world-leading research is helping save lives and improve many more across most areas of health and medicine. We can only do this through the involvement of both patients and people otherwise healthy in clinical trials and research studies.

Please ask about research opportunities in Southampton

We have hundreds of trials and research studies running at any one time, so please ask your doctor, nurse or GP whether there are any open trials relevant to your health – you have a right to benefit from these, and improving healthcare for all depends on everyone’s involvement.

You can also find information and contacts for participating in, and informing, clinical research in Southampton through our getting involved section.
