Stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy

The central south coast stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) service has been commissioned by NHS England to provide treatment to appropriate patients within this geographical area. It will be one of 17 such units across England.

We will utilise a highly modified linear accelerator (Linac) to deliver the service.

We are commissioned to deliver treatments for adult patients whose tumours fall within the Tier 1 and Tier 2 categories:

  • Tier 1 - metastatic lesions and supratentorial meningiomas
  • Tier 2 - skull base lesions including pituitary tumours

The treatment of functional or vascular lesions or paediatric tumours will be at more specialised centres and for this region that would be at University College Hospital, London.

Unfortunately, not all lesions suitable for single fraction radiosurgery (SRS) will be treated in the initial phase and some such tumours may still be referred out of region - for example, to the Gamma Knife Centre at Bristol, until September 2017, although the vast majority of tumours will be treated at UHS.
