Paediatrics

Child health services based at Southampton General Hospital provide clinical care for the local population as well as specialist care for the region in all clinical specialities, with the exception of transplantation work and plastic surgery. The service provides the regional Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, which runs its own retrieval service.

Our child health consultants provide outreach clinics in many other hospitals in the region covering a number of specialities including allergy, endocrinology, respiratory, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, surgery and urology patients.

Our specialist services have developed national and international reputations and are supported by major investments in clinical research in the newly formed biomedical research units. There is a strong paediatric presence in the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility.

We have established a paediatric assessment unit to care for local children with emergency medical conditions and are looking forward to the opening of the Southampton Children’s Hospital.

Our staff are committed to safeguarding children who might be the victims of abuse and work with closely with all partner agencies for the welfare of our patients.
