Paediatric oncology

Wessex Children's Cancer Network

The Wessex Children's Cancer Network (WCCN) has been established to provide world class care for children diagnosed with cancer who live in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West Sussex, south Wiltshire and the Channel Islands.

The network comprises one principal treatment centre and ten paediatric oncology shared care units. Children aged 0 to 15 years of age with all types of cancer (leukaemias, solid tumours and brain tumours) are treated. Other conditions which require paediatric oncology expertise (e.g. aplastic anaemia and Langerhans cell histiocytosis) are also treated within the network. The WCCN works in conjunction with the developing teenage and young adult cancer service also based in Southampton which cares for young people aged 16 to 24 years with cancer who live in the same geographical region.
