Lung cancer

Our thoracic oncology service is made up of a team of staff who specialise in treating chest cancers. We work closely with chest physicians, thoracic surgeons and clinical nurse specialists.

You will be reviewed by our specialist team, and your treatment will be based on clinical guidelines developed across the Wessex region.

Find out more about the lung cancer team, including contact information, on the meet the team page.

Our unit

Our cancer unit offers access to positron emission tomography (PET) scanning and high-dose radiotherapy, as well as providing supportive treatments for dyspnoea. All state-of-the-art chemotherapy is offered, including novel agent trials and adjuvant therapy.

Research

Southampton leads the UK and Europe in fighting cancer using the body’s own defences. Our Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, lead by Professor Ottensmeier, is helping find new ways of treating cancers of the chest and lung, through new immune system based therapies and trials of new therapeutics.
