Thoracic surgery
Our thoracic (chest) service is one of the most highly regarded in the UK. Our dedicated ward has 20 beds, including six post-operative recovery beds. We're equipped to manage patient controlled pain relief, epidural and tracheostomy.
We work alongside other specialties to provide a full spectrum of surgical treatment for intra-thoracic disease in adults and children. We also have expertise in uncommon tumours.
We're one of the largest centres in the UK for key hole thoracic surgery (video assisted thoracic surgery or VATS) and it is an integral part of the Trust's major trauma service.
Research is a core function of the department and we collaborate with the University of Southampton, Wellcome Trust and National Institute of Health Research. Our research interests include clinical, translational, basic science and the development of a biobank for benign disease and cancer.
