Resuscitation team
We provide a resuscitation service for the resuscitation teams within the Trust, including Southampton General and Princess Anne hospitals. Our team responds to emergency calls if a patient suddenly collapses, or their condition deteriorates. We get around 30 calls a week.
Training and education
As well as providing expert support in an emergency, we provide leadership and education during and after the event. This includes making sure we're up to date with national standards for resuscitation techniques.
We provide resuscitation education to all the staff at UHS, students, and sometimes to schools. We also run regional training courses for other health professionals in resuscitation techniques for adults and children.
You can find information about our training courses, and book your place, on the VLE.
We also deliver basic, intermediate and advanced life support courses to healthcare professionals working outside of this Trust. There is a charge for this service, please contact us for more information.
Audit and monitoring
We audit and monitor resuscitation around the Trust, to help us to continue to improve the care we provide. This has shown that our team has increased survival rates from cardiac arrest, compared to other large hospitals.
Our team
Our team is made up of four full time and four part time resuscitation officers, all with experience in critical or emergency care including intensive care, high dependency and the emergency department. The team is managed by a senior nurse. We also have a consultant working closely with our team, and a member of admin staff.
