Southampton City governors

Meet our governors who represent the Southampton City constituency

I have lived in Southampton for 10 years and concluded my working career with the Wessex Academic Health Science Network engaged in projects around healthy ageing.

Passionate about improving the care of people with dementia, I started a dementia action group in Portswood and have run two successful dementia festivals in the city.

I am also concerned about the environmental footprint of the hospital.  Previously, I’ve worked with NHS trusts to exploit the potential of telemedicine and telecare to deliver health and social care and I am keen for care to be delivered remotely as much as possible.

As an active member of the Green Party, I have campaigned on issues around the city such as access to the waterfront, mental health services and against expansion of the local airport.  My particular bugbear is the continuing use of single use cups for drinks and I would like to see everyone bringing a reusable cup with them when they visit the hospital.

    Declaration of Interests:

Councillor for the Portswood Ward of Southampton City Council

    Trustee of Caraway Charity

I am delighted to have been elected as governor. Having been a patient at the Trust, I am indebted to the staff, who do their best to provide high quality care in such financially challenging situations. Maintaining a trust that continues to provide exceptional care is paramount.

As a governor, I hope to give back as well to represent the views of the community who use the Trust’s services, ensuring all patients receive the best possible care and experience, now and in the future. I am particularly interested in diversity and equality, strategic planning and community involvement

Working in diverse sectors including education, health and social care, school governance and management, I have developed great analytical, communication and strategic planning skills which I hope to bring to the role.

I am very pleased to have been elected as a Governor at UHSFT.

My professional background involved research into, and the management of, large service organisations with significant emphasis on feedback from users as input to service development and improving quality outputs. I have recently been actively engaged in monitoring the provision of local (Southampton) health services with particular regard to quality and the patient experience. I joined Southampton Link in 2011 and subsequently became a member of the Healthwatch Southampton Strategy Group. In this role I attended the Southampton City CCG Board and committees. This enabled me to assess various developments in health provision throughout the city in a range of organisations. I have also taken part in the Clinical Accreditation Scheme at UHSFT and PLACE (Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment) at local hospitals.

All these activities focus on the user experience, an issue to which I am committed.

    Declaration of Interests:

Member of the Strategy Group of Healthwatch Southampton

Carries out Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment in local area

I was so pleased and honoured to have been elected as a Governor.

I have lived in Southampton for twelve years since I relocated here for my work. I was made very welcome by the local community and soon settled here.

Earlier this year the Cardiac team at SGH saved my husband's life. We were so impressed and grateful for the dedication and care he received from everyone we encountered at the hospital.

Hopefully this will be a chance, in my own small way, to give something back and help to represent the views of my local community.

I have lived in Southampton for over 50 years.

As a parent, grandparent, former headteacher and triathlete, I have an abiding interest in physical and mental wellbeing, and a particular interest in families, pregnancy, birth and exercise.

I successfully led and managed an organisation (secondary school) for 12 years.

For 7 years I was an ante-natal teacher, preparing individuals and couples for the realities and possibilities of birth and early parenthood.

I am currently the Welfare Officer for Southampton Triathlon Club: I ensure our Coaches have the essential qualifications, checks and training – to comply with legislation, and to enable Club members to meet their triathlon goals.

I am excited, and feel honoured to have been elected to serve on the Governing Body of University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
