Dr Price is a consultant in pain medicine who has worked for the Trust since 1999.

Experience

Dr Price is a consultant in pain medicine who has worked for the Trust since 1999. Her main contract was moved to Solent NHS Trust in 2014 with the transfer of the outpatient service. She continues to see inpatients here at UHS.

Key achievements

  • First community-based pain management programme in the UK in 2000, and community based pain triage teams in 2002
  • Elected member of the British Pain Society Council, 2006-09
  • Member of the Department of Health co-ordinating group on musculoskeletal disorders (2006-09), which developed a national audit programme for pain
  • Vice chair of the Southampton City Professional Executive Committee, 2007-10
  • Consultant advisor for the National Institute for Health Research 2011-13
  • Lead for the National Pain Audit, 2009-14

  • Medical Futures award for Innovation and Leadership, 2005
  • Honorary member of the British Pain Society for services to pain management, 2014

Research

  • HTA report on cost effectiveness and safety of epidural steroids in the treatment of sciatica 2005, Development of Pain Database Anaesthesia 2004/2008. 
  • NERVES trial 2016- (HTA) – effectiveness of transforaminal steroids in reducing the need for surgery for acute prolapsed discs
  • INSTEP co-applicant (HTA) 2017- returning people to work with long term pain
