Experience
Dr James has worked as a consultant at University Hospital Southampton since 2017. His clinical activity is based in children's ED seeing a wide variety of illness, injuries and trauma while educating a wide range of resident doctors and trainee practitioners. He is a passionate educator and is currently a divisional director of medical education having previously worked as a child health college tutor.
Dr James is a training advisor on the RCPCH Paediatric Emergency Medicine CSAC. He is also the acute care lead for the Healthier Together Programme and the founder of the HEEADSSS app.

Research
Principle investigator for a number of PEM research studies at Southampton including:
- PICBone - Studying the investigation of bone and joint infections in children
- FIDO - Evaluating the management of febrile infants
- HiFlo - Studying the feasibility of studying the use of humidified high flow oxygen in wheeze.
