Experience
Gabriella De Salvo is a consultant ophthalmologist and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton. Miss De Salvo specializes in the diagnosis and management of medical retinal diseases and treats patients with conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, retinal vascular diseases, central serous chorioretinopathy, intraocular tumours, and inflammatory and inherited retinal conditions. She also offers second opinions for complex retinal cases.
She regularly teaches medical students, optometrists, nurses and junior doctors. She is a recognised appraiser for the Trust, she is the Clinical Effectiveness Lead and the Imaging Lead for Ophthalmology.
As an active researcher, she is involved in numerous clinical trials and regularly publishes in peer-reviewed journals. She is retina section editor for peer-reviewed journals such as 'Eye' and associate editor for the 'British Medical Journal Open Ophthalmology’. Miss De Salvo is also a recognised reviewer for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
She is an active member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the European Retina Society (Euretina), and the Italian Society of Ophthalmic Sciences (SISO).
