Experience

Dr Cave has worked for the Trust since January 2009. She has expertise in the management of lung and neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), and carries out clinical research in both these fields. She is the research lead for NETs and is proud to have been part of the successful bid for Wessex to become a European Centre of Excellence for NETs.

Dr Cave is also heavily involved in medical education, and teachers both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is an honorary associate professor at the University of Southampton, and the deputy lead for the third year of the medical programs.

Research

Dr Cave's areas of research interest include:

1. Lung cancer
Dr Cave has been PI for several large lung cancer and mesothelioma studies including MATRIX, Tracer-X, NERO and CONFIRM.
2. Neuroendocrine tumours
Dr Cave has been involved in clinical trials for example NET-02, and also in some locally initiated research looking at the tumour micro environment in NETs.
3. Medical Education
Dr Cave supervises a team of academic foundation doctors carrying out research in medical education, and also has an interest in the awarding gap in postgraduate medical education. She has published on the use of coaching to support consultant doctors.
