Experience
Dr Al-Mrayat is a consultant endocrinologist who joined the Trust in 2015.
He chairs the Wessex multidisciplinary team for pituitary tumours (tumours that start in the pituitary gland, a gland that regulates hormones in the body) and craniopharyngeoma, a kind of brain tumour.
He sees patients with a wide range of conditions, including:
- disorders of the pituitary gland
- disorders of the thyroid (a gland in the neck that produces hormones to regulate metabolism)
- disorders of the parathyroid gland (the gland that regulates calcium levels in the body)
- disorders of the adrenal gland (a gland above the kidneys that produces hormones like adrenaline).
Dr Al-Mrayat works with a variety of other departments, running clinics such as:
- joint pituitary clinics with the neurosurgery team
- joint neuroendocrine tumour (tumours that develop in the nerve and gland cells in the neuroendocrine system) clinics with hepatobiliary surgery (also covering inherited endocrine tumours including multiple endocrine neoplasia)
- thyroid lump and fine needle biopsy clinics with the radiology team
- transitional endocrinology (endocrinology treatment for children moving up to adult services) clinics with the paediatrics team
- thyroid eye disease clinics with the ophthalmology team.
Key achievements
- On the editorial board of the Journal of Practical Diabetes since 2012
- Responsible officer appraiser for NHS England South since 2013
- Presented with the Nye Bevan Executive Leadership Certificate by the NHS Academy in 2016

Research
Dr Al-Mrayat is a former research fellow in endocrinology at Imperial College, London, where he studied growth hormone deficiency in adults with the condition hypopituitarism.
