Experience
Dr Alderton joined the Trust as a consultant paediatrician in 2014. He trained in a number of paediatric units in the south of England, including the paediatric and neonatal intensive care units at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. He's also worked in New Zealand and Australia.
As a general paediatrician, Dr Alderton is involved in the assessment, investigation and management of children and young people with acute or chronic conditions. He also sees urgent referrals in the general paediatric rapid access clinic, which aims to see patients within two weeks.
As well as his general paediatric clinic, Dr Alderton is part of the Southampton Children’s Hospital allergy team and provides clinic for the assessment and management of food allergies as part of a multidisciplinary team. As part of this role he manages patients within the multi-speciality gastro-allergy clinic
Dr Alderton has a special interest in the aetiological assessment of hearing loss and works in conjunction with the audiology service to provide investigations to understand the causes of hearing loss for children and young people.
Outside of University Hospital Southampton Dr Alderton was involved in the development of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight long covid clinic for children and young people and has continued with this service as it has developed into a regional post viral fatigue service as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
Dr Alderton has an interest in medical education and continues to support medical student teaching for fourth year medical students in their local placement for paediatrics and teaches on the post graduate Allergy MSc from Southampton University.
