Experience

Dr Warlow joined the trust in September 2020 as a consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine and is lead for regional service development within the UHS Specialist Paediatric Palliative Care service. He provides specialist palliative care to the wider Wessex region, working across both Southampton General Hospital and Naomi House and Jacksplace Hospice services. The main aspects of Dr Warlow’s clinical role include supporting patients, families and professionals in decision making and care planning, complex symptom management, supporting patients and families in their end of life care choices; including home visits at the end of life, liaison with the regions three hospices and identifying support for families through bereavement. In addition to clinical activities Dr Warlow is Clinical Lead and Chair of the Wessex Childrens and Young Adults’ Palliative Care Network which aims to support the development and integration of palliative care services across the Wessex region. The network provides guidance, education, training and support to professionals from health, education and social care, working with children and young adults with life limiting conditions through an interdisciplinary community and regular forum meetings.

Dr Warlow’s primary professional interests include neonatal palliative care and the management of gastrointestinal symptoms in the palliative care context for which he holds a number of national roles supporting the development of guidance, education and training.
