Mr Girish Vajramani

Mr Vajramani is a neurosurgeon, with sub-specialty interests in functional neurosurgery and spinal neurosurgery.

Experience

Mr Vajramani joined the Trust in February 2010 as a consultant neurosurgeon.

He is the lead neurosurgeon for

  • spinal cord stimulation for neuropathic pain
  • adult epilepsy surgery
  • the intrathecal baclofen therapy service

After finishing a functional neurosurgery fellowship from the Walton Centre, Liverpool, Mr Vajramani joined UHS to set up the functional neurosurgery service here. He has successfully set up the spinal cord stimulation, occipital nerve stimulation and intrathecal baclofen therapy service.

The lead neurosurgeon for epilepsy surgery, Mr Vajramani performs resective surgeries as well as vagus nerve stimulation. His areas of interest include trigeminal neuralgia, complex facial pain and other neurovascular conflict syndromes, such as hemifacial spasm and glosso-pharyngeal neuralgia. He is also interested in occipital nerve stimulation for intractable migraines and cluster headaches.

Mr Vajramani has performed neurosurgical procedures for pain such as DREZ lesioning and open thoracic cordotomy. He is currently setting up the deep brain stimulation service for Parkinson’s and other movement disorders, and is actively involved in various cutting edge research trials in newer forms of neuromodulation devices.
