What to bring into hospital with you

You will need to bring several things with you to hospital, or have a friend or relative bring them. The following is a guide:

Do bring:

  • Any medicines or tablets you are taking in their original packaging
  • Pyjamas or night-dress
  • Dressing gown and well fitting non-slip soled shoes
  • Dressing gown and daywear - comfortable clothes
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap and deodorant
  • Shaving equipment if appropriate
  • Sanitary products such as tampons if appropriate
  • A book or magazines
  • Spectacles if you need them
  • Small change for newspapers or bedside TV/telephone
  • Underwear
  • Bath towel and a flannel or sponge
  • Tissues and moist hand wipes
  • Bottle of squash
  • Walking aid - frame, stick, crutches - if you need them
  • Phone/tablet with headphones

All your property should be clearly labelled.

Don't bring:

  • Large amounts of money
  • Valuables such as jewellery
  • Alcohol

If you have to bring valuables into hospital, please inform the nurse who will be able to store them for you. The Trust cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to any of your property or valuable items that were not handed in for safekeeping.
