Children's diabetes service

We provide medical advice and support for children with diabetes from 0 to 19 years of age, alongside their families and carers.

Our clinics run at Southampton General Hospital on Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, and at Lymington Hospital on Tuesday mornings four times a year (in January, April, July and October).

We have a team of children's diabetes specialist nurses who provide advice and support at home, as well as in schools, nurseries and playgroups. We also run monthly education sessions.

As a team, we firmly believe that through research our understanding of diabetes will improve. There are lots of research projects going on nationally looking at causes, prevention, and the best ways of treating diabetes in children and young people. There are also trials running in Southampton - find out more here.

Our service is part of the Wessex Paediatric Diabetes Network, and we have links with the Association of Children’s Diabetes Clinicians (ACDC), Diabetes UK, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (BSPED) and the Southampton parents’ support group.
