Children's gastroenterology service
Gastroenterology is an area of medicine that focuses on the health of the digestive system or the gut.
In children's gastroenterology, we cover a wide range of gastroenterological conditions in children from birth to 18 years, including (but not limited to):
- inflammatory bowel disease
- coeliac disease
- short bowel syndrome
- intestinal failure
- eosinophilic oesophagitis
- chronic constipation
- hepatology
- rumination
- gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Our service is based in Southampton Children’s Hospital, but we also treat patients in our eleven regional hospitals.
We work closely with the paediatric research team to support and improve the service and treatments we give. We actively encourage our inflammatory bowel patients to participate in research.
Our team are also part of the British Society of Paediatric Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN). We are guided by national and international research and evidence.
