Urgent message: Our hospital is under extreme pressure

Tags:

Our hospital is currently experiencing exceptionally high demand, and our teams are working tirelessly to provide safe care to everyone who needs it.

At this time (Tuesday, 13 January), our Emergency Department (ED) is facing waiting times of up to 12 hours for non‑urgent cases.

To ensure that we can prioritise those with life-or-limb threatening conditions, we are asking the public to use alternative NHS services wherever possible. If your condition is not an emergency, please consider seeking help from:

  • NHS 111, on the phone or online, if you need urgent medical help
  • Use Urgent Treatment Centres at Royal South Hants Hospital or Lymington New Forest Hospital for urgent but non-life-threatening care
  • Your GP practice
  • Your local pharmacy – most pharmacies can also offer prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP or make an appointment

These services can provide fast, expert advice and help you get the right care more quickly.

How you can help us get your loved-ones home

We are also asking for the support of families and carers. If your loved one is ready to leave hospital, helping with their discharge and settling them safely at home makes a significant difference. Every bed we can free up allows us to care for someone who urgently needs hospital treatment. See our leaving hospital page here.

We are incredibly grateful for your patience, understanding, and support during this challenging period. Our staff are doing everything they can, and your help enables us to continue providing safe care for our community.
