Announcement regarding the appointment of UHS chief medical officer

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Grundy to the chief medical officer (CMO) role.

Paul was asked by the board to act as CMOPaul Grundy on an interim basis after Derek Sandeman left the Trust at the start of the year.

Following a thorough external recruitment process the UHS Trust Board has now appointed Paul to the role on a substantive basis.

Paul graduated from the University of Southampton medical school in 1992 and joined UHS in 2005 as a consultant neurosurgeon. In 2011 he became care group clinical lead of neurosciences and was a divisional clinical director from 2014, until his appointment as deputy medical director in 2019.

He has three children and lives in Winchester.

In announcing the appointment, chair Peter Hollins and chief executive David French said: “Paul has done an outstanding job during his time in the interim role and has demonstrated he has all the leadership skills needed for the CMO role.”
