Children's outpatient department

What to expect on your visit to children’s outpatients during COVID-19

  • Only one parent or carer is permitted to accompany each child for their appointment or blood test. This is because our waiting room capacity has been reduced to maintain social distancing measures and to minimise the number of adults coming through the department. We appreciate that many families may find this difficult and suggest that you use a mobile phone on speakerphone for the second parent to listen in on the consultation if they wish.
  • We ask that you arrive just before your appointment time to minimise the amount of people in our waiting rooms, unless you have been told your child requires an x-ray or blood test prior to your appointment.
  • There are no longer toys out in our waiting areas and clinic rooms as we are unable to maintain adequate cleaning of toys between each patient use.
  • We have increased our cleaning regime within the department and encourage patients and staff to regularly use the hand gel stations.
  • You will see all members of staff wearing a mask and you and your child will be given a mask on entry to the hospital. However if your child will not tolerate wearing a mask please do not worry.

We are really sorry that some of these changes may impact your outpatient experience but we are dedicated to ensuring we keep our environment as safe as possible for our patients and their families. If you wish to speak to a member of staff prior to coming to the department, please call 023 8120 4075 and ask to speak with the nurse in charge.

Many thanks for your cooperation
