Changing Places accessible toilet facility
Approximately a quarter of a million people in the UK cannot use standard accessible toilets, and require a larger space with specialist equipment and room for a family member or carer to accompany them. Located inside our main entrance, this purpose-built facility has been designed to provide a safe and comfortable toilet and changing area for patients and visitors with disabilities.
Our facility has been recognised by Changing Places, a national organisation that campaigns for accessible toilet facilities, and was opened by the Mayor of Southampton in April 2019.
The room is approximately 18.5ft² in size and has a range of specialist equipment:
- Height adjustable changing bench
- Ceiling track hoist system
- Privacy screen
- Centrally located toilet (with space either side for carers/assistants) and wash basin.
The facility is available for use 24 hours a day and is managed by coded access only.
Accessing the facility
Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm: ask the team at main reception for the access code. If possible, please let staff at main reception know when you've left the changing room so they know it's free for the next user.
Out of hours (before 8.30am, after 5.30pm or at weekends): contact the hospital security team for the access code - call 023 8120 4182 for more information.
