Our facilities (chemotherapy)
Hamwic House
Hamwic House is the systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) day unit for delivery of chemotherapy and supportive therapies. Find us at the back of the blue car park behind Victoria House and the South Academic Block.
Each day around 40 to 90 patients receive treatment, and attend outpatient clinical consultation appointments. Other procedures such as PICC line insertions and NG tube insertions are carried out on the unit by the nursing team.
The unit is a couple of minutes walk from the radiotherapy department and the other facilities within the hospital, allowing us to offer regional specialist cancer services at a single location. Hamwic House is also next to the oncology pharmacy (Platinum House) allowing onsite preparation of specialist SACT treatment.
Upon entering Hamwic House you will be welcomed by the reception team and booked in for your appointment. You will then be directed to the waiting area where you will then be called for whichever appointment you are attending for. Hamwic House has three main areas; a phlebotomy room, which is currently operating by an appointment based systems, 17 consultation rooms for clinical reviews with oncology consultants and registrars. There are 26 treatment chairs, two side rooms and a procedure room where SACT and supportive therapies are administered.
Hamwic House also operates an outreach service where treatments are administered by the Hamwic House nursing team at Lymington hospital. There is also the possibility to have treatment delivered at home by the UHS at home service.
