Children and young people's blood tests
Children and young people's blood tests (under 18 years)
Please note, this applies to GP requests only.
Where can my child have their blood test?
Children and young people aged 17 years and under have their blood tests in the children’s outpatient department. This is the only location where children's blood tests are provided.
However, young people aged 16 and 17 years can choose to book a test with the adult or children and young people's blood testing service, depending on their preference and clinical needs.
Appointment-only service
All children's blood tests are available by appointment only. This applies to GP requests only.
Community paediatricians and CAMHS should not book into these slots, please use the walk in service that we also provide.
This helps us to:
- Reduce waiting times
- Keep the clinic running well
- Give better choice and flexibility of appointment times
- Give a better experience for children, young people and their families.
We are asking patients and families to book online wherever possible. Online booking is available 24 hours a day and lets you look at and chose from available appointments in the children’s outpatient department. Please visit www.uhs.nhs.uk/bloodtest to book.
Please note: The booking team has the same appointment slots that are available online. Calling us will not give you any other options for booking an appointment.

If your GP has told you that your child's blood test is clinically urgent you cannot book online, please call the children and young people's blood test team on 023 8120 2024.
