At University Hospital Southampton (UHS) the Technical Solutions team and the Critical Care Information team have been developing an application called digiRounds. It aims to provide clinical teams with valuable information they need in a ward round, in a format that is concise, as well as quick to use.

Ward rounds are an essential part of inpatient care. Patients are reviewed by consultants, with assistance from junior doctors and sometimes senior nurses and other clinical staff. The care for the rest of the day is decided here, including assessing the patients’ health, deciding on further investigations, and the suitability for patients to go home.

digiRounds allows users to show patients their scans and images at bedside and has saved significant time for staff conducting ward rounds

“Already using DigiRounds is making a difference and halved the time taken to see patient vital signs and results on my ward round on HASU – it is a fantastic innovation.”
