Featured research: COVID-19 vaccine trial in adolescents

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust are inviting healthy adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old to participate in a COVID-19 vaccine study.


This study will provide information vital to the development of a new vaccine to protect against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), this virus causes a disease called COVID-19. This study will test the experimental vaccine to help scientists and doctors find out if it can help prevent disease caused by the virus. The main purpose of this study is to see if the study vaccine is safe (if it causes any side effects) and how people feel after the vaccine. You will be reimbursed for travel and meal expenses.


Who can take part?

If you / your child are aged 12-17 and in good health you may be eligible to take part


What does this study involve? 

The study consists of:

  • 11 visits in clinic and some telephone follow-up over a 19-month period
  • Vaccination with 2 doses and a booster dose of COVID-19 Vaccine or placebo
  • You will be reimbursed for travel and meal expenses
