Recovery following critical illness
It’s known that prolonged immobility during and after critical illness impacts people’s recovery and outcomes. We’re looking at using physiotherapy early in critical illness to reduce these impacts.
Key investigator: Dr Rebecca Cusack
- As part of the national Enhanced Recovery following Critical Illness initiative, we are evaluating physical interventions delivered very early in the course of critical illness to minimise the recognised harms of immobility in relation to sustained critical illness.
- Alongside this work we’re collaborating with primary care colleagues to develop the role of integrated and community care in optimising recovery.
