** ICE DOWNLOAD  **   new  notice April 2021

Specific issues with ICE download have been fixed though the fix is not retrospective to the result reported date. Please save the latest ICE download manual  for more detail fom the download section of this page

ICE download allows GP practice ICE users to select and receive a copy of  pathology and/or radiology reports belonging to their patients which were not requested by their practice, for example UHS inpatient or outpatient reports.
Downloaded reports are clearly audited in the results received by the practice and in ICE. Download allows one or more patient pathology results, for example UHS SARS-CoV-2 results to be selected and radiology reports.

Please note downloaded reports can take a couple of hours to be available for your practice mailbox to collect

ICE (integrated clinical environment
) system links with all main GP clinical systems.

Your existing pathology and radiology reporting service remains and this will continue to deliver GP practice initiated results directly into your GP clinical system (with read-coded test results).

Some ICE benefits:

  • Accurate recording and electronic transfer of NHS patient number and investigations requested.
  • ICE guides the user on how to place requests and advises how many containers and types are required for each set of test(s).
  • There are elements of demand management built into the system, for example to guide users away from potential uneccessary repeat testing (by offering to show most recent results) and rules to guide users to clinically appropriate testing, for example 'is patient on thyroxine?'.
  • CCG approved treatment pathways are provided as context sensitive URL web page links. UHS service information and ICE user guides are also provided as links within ICE requesting screens.
  • All orders are fully traceable and auditable in the system.
  • Results are often available on ICE within 30 minutes of being reported. This is particularly useful if practice is awaiting an INR result for example.
  • Southampton ICE contains UHS inpatient and outpatient pathology results reported from August 2011 and GP results from March 2012.
  • Southampton ICE contains UHS PACS (radiology) results from April 2018.
  • Within the view 'patient reports function' on ICE, tests can be trended over a period of time and displayed graphically. This may be useful for INR results
