Meet the team: kidney stone service
We hold fortnightly meetings to discuss patients with complex stones and regional referrals. These meetings include interventional radiologists, adult urologists, metabolic physician, paediatric urologist and radiology and urology trainees.
Consultants
Mr Bhaskar Somani, urological surgeon
Mr Somani is stone lead at the Trust. He is responsible for running our stone clinics, operating lists, multi-disciplinary team meetings and lithotripsy services.

Fellows
Dr Amelia Pietropaolo, endourology fellow
Dr Pietropaolo started to work in UHS in 2017 after completing training as a urologist in Italy.
She is an active member of the stone team and plays a vital role in the investigation, screening, operative procedures and follow up of these patients. She is also dedicated to research and is the clinical lead of the lithotripsy service.
Specialist nurse
Matt Archer, benign urology nurse specialist
Matt has worked in urology since 2010. He spent four years working on the ward before taking up the position of benign urology nurse specialist. He works closely with the rest of the team to provide acute and ongoing support to kidney stone patients. His role also involves seeing patients in urology clinics and virtual telephone follow ups.
