Get thinking about your drinking
We're putting the spotlight on the harm that alcohol misuse can cause.
For Alcohol Awareness Week, held Monday, 11 to Sunday, 17 November, we'll be raising awareness and signposting to services that can provide extra support.
Alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions, including: mouth, throat, stomach liver and breast cancers; high blood pressure; cirrhosis of the liver; and depression.
Did you know...?
- Alcohol is a factor in the deaths of 24,000 in the UK
- 24% of adults in England and Scotland regularly drink more than the recommended limit
- 7.2% of all hospital admissions are related to alcohol consumption
Nurses from our dedicated alcohol care team will be in the main entrance of University Hospital Southampton on Monday, 11 and Tuesday, 12 November, 9am to 3pm. They will be available to talk to about particular risk factors and will have life-size models of livers for you to check out.
If you're worried that you or a loved one might be drinking too much, there's support available. Find out about your options here.
