Stopping smoking is the best thing that you can do for your health as you prepare to come into hospital. Your treatment is more likely to be successful, and you will get better quicker.
Free NHS stop smoking support is available to you before you come into hospital, during your stay and after discharge.
Nicotine replacement products are available to support patients during their stay in hospital as an inpatient. You may be referred to one of our smoking cessation advisors who will contact you to give advice around medication, effective behaviour change and support.
Evidence shows that the most effective way to quit is to use a combination of nicotine replacement products and a stop smoking service.
Stop smoking services
For further information on stopping smoking please contact one of the following services. You can also get eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy products for a one-off prescription charge (or free if you don’t pay for prescriptions).
Our local stop smoking services support the use of e-cigarettes (also known as vapes) and can provide vouchers for starter packs as part of the programme. Although not entirely risk free, vaping is significantly less dangerous than smoking and has been effectively used as a tool to stop smoking altogether.
Please note that vaping and smoking should be confined to the designated smoking shelters around the hospital site.
